Helping Room 8

Room 10 helped Room 8 with their gmails. They helped them get used to signing in and signing out and pushing the shift button and clicking the number 2 to make the @ sign. They also helped Room 8 with sending emails and replying them. 🙈🙉🙊

Becoming a "Detextive"

Today in class we discussed the things that "trip us up" when we are reading - these are the things that we have difficulties. Here is our list:

Complicated/complex words

Skipping a line/page accidentally

Lose the page you are up to

Lose focus

A hard sentence - a sentence you don’t understand

Maori words

Long words - reading the word

Small print

Fancy font

Sounding out long words

Day dreaming

When I don’t understand a text

Noise

Distractions

When i read the same line over and over again

Pictures that do not match the text

Sentences and words that don’t make sense

When i read the word that i want to read NOT the word that is actually there

We also discussed some of the ways we overcome these. Here is what the class came up with:

Choose books with bigger print

Read faster - learn how

Search for meanings of words

Go back and reread

Write down unknown words and then search them up

Sit in a quiet spot

Learn how to sound out words faster

Flick through the book to find the page you were on

Use your finger to stop reading the same line

Know when something doesn’t make sense and do something about it

WE HOPE TO LEARN SOME MORE STRATEGIES TO HELP US WHEN READING IS HARD OR WHEN WE ARE READING A COMPLEX TEXT
