INNOVATIVE PRODUCTS - Review and Reflection

Our group names: Abbie,Shanelle and Briana

Our Product: Terrariums,Minion Jar and Tea light

Questions:
Look back at your questions in your W.I.T. book, write down any that you have not answered.
We have answered all of our questions.
Were there any extra questions you had to research? Write these here.
How much the spray paint would cost?

Surveying:
How did you survey your prospective customers?
We ask them which product they would buy out of our three selections and how much they would pay for each one of them.
How many people completed your survey?
28 ( Rm 10+Mr A)
Do you think that was enough people and a range of people to get a good idea of what people would like to buy? Why do you say that?
Yes because most of our products were for that age group and most of them sold.
Summarise what this information told you. Did you use this information to choose what to make.
No because we had already decided that we were making all three. We were only surveying about the price and how much we were going to make of each.

Profit:
Do you think you make a profit or a loss?
Profit
Tell me what materials you needed and the approximate cost (even if your parents bought your supplies).
Tea lights : $3
Spray paint: $8
Food colouring : $1
Plain Flour: $6-7
Salt: $3
Jars: $1
Wine glasses: $1
Googly eyes: $6
Ribbon x2: $5.50
Using the data collected from Mrs McA and Mr A work out how much money you made from sales.
$45.50
Now work out how much profit you made. Explain your working carefully in the box.
$14 because we spent $31.50 and altogether we made $45.50 from the products at the carnival.
Finally, work out the percentage of your products that sold and didn’t sell.
9 minion jars: 100% sold 0% not sold
10 tea lights: 10% sold 90% not sold
Terrariums: 90% sold 10% not sold

Group work:
What went well for your group?

We finished before the deadline and we had enough time to make a poster for our products as well as an ad for the school. We found good products to make earlier on in the wit so we had enough time to make it.
What didn’t go well for your group?

A few disagreements, nothing major. Just miscommunication.
What could you do differently next time if you did this again to improve your profit?

We need to work on making sure everybody knows what is going on and future steps.

Do this but as an individual.
Name (person 1): Abbie
Thinking about your contributions to your group. How did you make a Positive Difference to your group?
I showed our group Pinterest and that is where we got all our ideas from so that made a very big difference for finding ideas.
What do you know more now that you have completed this WIT?
You have to make sure you are selling something for the right audience and the right price people would pay. I learnt how to use the design process and how it helps to use it to create a successful product. About Surveying and how you can have an open question and a closed question and what effect they can have on your data whether it be good or bad.
What new vocabulary did you learn?
Innovation: Process
What is one thing that you personally would do differently in how you worked as a group member?
Making sure that I made my ideas heard and thought about by the other group members.

Do this bit as an individual.
Name (person 2):
Thinking about your contributions to your group. How did you make a Positive Difference to your group?
Suggesting that we could make more than 1 product and make 2-3.
What do you know more now that you have completed this WIT?
More about surveying, open and closed questions when surveying. How to make an average from something.
What new vocabulary did you learn?
innovation,craft product,Design Process
What is one thing that you personally would do differently in how you worked as a group member?

Make-Tember

In the last two weeks of Term 3 some of us have been involved in a learning task called Make-Tember. This involved taking some learning from this term, summarising it and creating a tool that other students could learn from.

The three options were: 1. Water Safety - from our AWE Water Survival skills sessions 2. School Pepeha - learn more about this by watching the video! 3. Quality Blog Comments - watch the videos to learn how to write a quality comment on a blog. Students involved were given choice as to how to present their work.

Check out some of the final results:

The rest of us were keen to watch them. We decided to give some constructive feedback to those involved.

Here are the criteria we came up with:

1. We understand the message (the message is clear).

2. The quality of the product (e.g. easy to hear, not fuzzy, not shaking).

3. Creative e.g. interesting, has a hook, entertaining.

We used this to give product a rating out of 3.
