Algorithms in Maths

To evidence our learning we often use the iPad app "Explain Everything". This app allows us to create short videos that teach others how to do something. Teaching others and creating videos like this helps us to really understanding new learning.

Here are 2 videos made by Ari and Kyle. They would love some feedback about whether their videos help them to be an "Effective Communicator" of the message they are trying to get across.

What is Health and P.E.?

Yesterday we had a discussion about what is Health and P.E. Many of us think that it is just going outside for a game. Is it?

What does Health mean?
What does P.E. mean?

We posed a few questions and then had a brainstorm about all the things that might make up Health and P.E. Here are our thoughts...

What a great list!

Growth Mindset video #1

Today we watched a video on something called a "GROWTH MINDSET".
Here is the video:

  • Don't give up when you are learning
  • Repeat things to learn them (e.g. basic facts)
  • You can train your brain
  • Your brain can grow
  • When we learn, new connections are formed in the cells in our brain
  • You can grow your brain like a muscle
  • You can get smarter!

Sketching

For the people that had finished their Lego art had to go on room 10's class site and watch some videos for techniques. After we learnt the techniques we had to do a mini challenge and the challenge was to sketch something in the room. I drew a jar with paintbrushes in it

ANZACs and US

We also used the Te Ara Tika Learning to Learn pathway to create some questions to research. Here are the questions:

Our Class Questions:

Why did the world have World War 1?
Where did we fight?
Did every country in the world fight in World War 1?
What happened in World War 1?
How many people died in World War 1 from NZ?
How many NZers went to fight in World War 1?
What does commemorates mean?
How did World War 1 start?
Did every boy over 16 go to war?
Is ANZAC Day just about World War 1?

The second group added:
How many people survived World War 1?
How many people died in World War 1?
What year did World War 1 start?
Who were we fighting against in World War 1?
Who started World War 1?
How do we celebrate ANZAC Day?
What does commemorate mean?
How did people survive World War 1?
Why is ANZAC day on the date it is?
Why did Japan want to take over NZ?
This year is the 100 year celebration of New Zealand's involvement in World War 1. For many of us ANZAC Day has become very special. Over the next week you will learn all about ANZAC Day and New Zealand's involvement in World War 1 (and maybe some other major wars). Here is our prior knowledge...
